Microcrystalline wax is a type of paraffin wax with a melting point typically above 75°C, containing a carbon number range between 40 and 80, and an approximate molecular weight of 500 to 800. When the content of isomeric hydrocarbons reaches as high as 50-80%, it forms fine crystals, hence the name microcrystalline wax. Compared to regular paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax exhibits a higher melting point and superior toughness.
Microcrystalline wax boasts distinctive product characteristics, including a fine crystalline structure and a relatively high melting point, which endow it with excellent flexibility and crack resistance, enabling it to maintain stability under varying environmental conditions. Its advantages lie in significantly enhancing the gloss, water resistance, and weatherability of finished products, thereby extending their service life. Additionally, during the manufacturing process, microcrystalline wax acts as a lubricant, improving production efficiency and ensuring the consistency and stability of product quality.
Microcrystalline wax finds wide applications in cosmetics (e.g., lipsticks, creams), polishes (for shoes, cars, floors), candles, coatings, inks, rubber products, and as a modifier to improve the properties of other waxes and materials.
